Yearbook 2002

Brunei. According to Countryaah website, Brunei and other member countries of the ASEAN partner organization agreed during the July-August summit, held in the country, to support the United States in the fight against terrorism. The agreement with the US means, among other things, stricter border controls and increased intelligence exchange.

2002 Brunei

In December, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah visited US President George W. Bush for talks on counter-terrorism and trade. ASEAN signed an agreement with China in November to prevent an extension of the conflict over the Sprat Islands in the South China Sea, which Brunei claims. The countries also agreed to move forward in the creation of a free trade zone. In August, the Sultan replaced the Minister of Development and the Minister of Health.
