Ivan Basso (Liquigas-Doimo) has found form just in time for the last week of the Giro d’Italia on Sunday’s stage to Monte Zoncolan, he triumphed in style. He ran out of its competitors and, finally, to give way to italienarens high tempo was Cadel Evans (Omega Pharma-Lotto) who was second on the stage.

David Arroyo (Caisse d’Epargne) who took over the pink jersey after Saturday stage ripped out in case of an eleventh place, distanced by nearly four minutes. The Spaniard leads continued the race but the distance down to Ivan Basso has been reduced to three-and-a-half minutes. A distance that he most likely will get in and then subtract if he continues as he did on the Monte Zoncolan. Basso is third in the overall classification after the 15th stage.

“It’s a great day for me. The best since I came back. I’m really happy for what I have achieved. I have to thank my team, they were great that pulled in over 100 kilometers, “said Ivan Basso.

“It was hard, but when you’re on a mountain that you don’t intend to Zoncolan on anything other than to tackle it with total concentration,” he explains further.
