Contador Won the Tour for the Third Time

Road: Alberto Contador (Astana) celebrated their third victory in the Tour de France on Sunday after the peloton rolled in to the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Once in the French capital put Sprint teams off and there was no one who prevailed on Mark Cavendish (Team HTC-Columbia) this time either.

Alberto Contador (Astana) celebrated their third victory in the Tour de France on Sunday after the peloton rolled in to the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Once in the French capital put Sprint teams off and there was no one who prevailed on Mark Cavendish (Team HTC-Columbia) this time either.

Mark Cavendish showed yet again that he is the best spurtaren when he picked home his fifth stage victory in this year’s Tour.

– Bernie Eisel and Tony Martin were at my side in the final. Bernie took me to the tunnel last time and Tony did a fantastic job that dropped me at Petacchis wheels inside the last kilometer, “explains Mark Cavendish and continues:

“When I sat on the Petacchis wheel, I knew that I could win the stage. We came out of the last curve and then I pulled off straight. In all the sprints on the tour, try to save as much energy as possible, but not on the Champs Élysées. After that, you don’t need to save any energy-so you give everything to the finish line, and that’s what I did today, “he said.

The final victory for the third time, went to Alberto Contador who told me after the race that it’s been a tough Tour.

“This victory cost me very much. I have suffered but it is what you must do to win the tour, “said Alberto Contador.

– Perhaps I was not in my best shape, there were days when I was not at its best. But I will not say which days were bad.
