Nordic Eco-Vallentuna Run Finland’s Oldest Contest

Porvoo is Finland’s second oldest town, founded during the middle ages. Porvoo is situated about 50 kilometres east of Helsinki, is best known as a city of culture but is also motionärernas and nature friends’ city. Big tourist destination in Porvoo’s “Old Town” and its Cathedral, as well as national poet Runeberg’s home which is open to the public. 

One of the city’s most well known sports clubs founded in 1902 is Porvoo Achilles. The Association has a number of sections, and in 1911 took Achilles up bike on his program. Achilles has in its history had several cyclists who represented Finland in the World Championships and Olympics and is one of Finland’s most successful cycling clubs throughout history. Porvoo race arranged Achilles first time in 1926 and in 2010 organized the 83rd Edition of the Porvoo race, Finland’s oldest cycling race.

Race weekend is conducted on 12 and 13 June with the opening GP race in Central Porvoo during Saturday evening when a 1.2 km long course, felled 40 times, a total of 48 kilometers. On Sunday, the race will be held over the traditional Porvoo 161 kmilometer Competition brings together the best national riders, continental teams and even foreign ProTour cyclists. 2009 Kjell Carlstrom won Borgåfödde.

Nordic Eco-Vallentuna Cycling Team will send a strong team to the Porvoo race with cyclists Linus Dahlberg, Johannes Dunberg, Alexander Gingsjö, Jonathan Havnevik-Giske, Nils Penton and Patrick M. Leaders to Porvoo race becomes Anders G and Robin N.

Last contest period has been successful for the Nordic Eco-Vallentuna Cycling Team who have won their last four starts. In total, the team has so far taken six victories on the national races in 2010. The victory in the Kalas Cup in Falköping, followed by victories in all three races during the days of Stockholm have created a very good atmosphere in the whole squad.

After races in Porvoo will Nordic Eco-Vallentuna Cycling Team to arrange the propaganda contest Hard Rock Cafe Grand Prix on June 16 as well as participate in Eurosport Vättern GP on June 17 before the final preparation phase to the Swedish Championship begins.
