Mark Cavendish (Team HTC-Columbia) is back in form. On Friday he outclassed his rivals in the Sprint of the sixth stage of the tour with two bicycle lengths and took his second stage victory in a row.

Today’s stage victory was his 12th in the Tour de France, with it he goes up in the same number of stage wins as his mentor, Erik Zabel.

“It is wonderful. The guys did a perfect job today. Kanstantin Sioutsou has a do a lot of work the last few days so today he got the rest. Bert Grabsch began work and then took Maxime Monfort over, says Mark Cavendish when he praises his teammates who once again made sure that all the dissidents were captured before the finish.

“We had four guys for Sprint and we had to get behind a team that held the lead. Mark Renshaw remained cold and walked out from the Lampres train and took me until it was 150 meters left, it was wonderful, continues Cavendish.

Closest behind Mark Cavendish came Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Transitions) and sprinted again after having recovered from his wounds he had received at earlier stages. Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-Farnese Vini) became the third man across the finish line.
