The UCI has decided to accept the disc brakes in cyclo-cross. Rule change will be implemented already for next season 2010-2011.
The reason for the rule change is to make the sport more accessible, in terms of equipment, for the juniors. With disc brakes will riders not to have as many pairs of wheels.

“I didn’t think this would go over with the UCI. I heard about all the changes long ago, the biggest change for us was to tire width was to be 33 millimetres-but this brake the rule really amazes me, said our site’s coach, Stu Thorne.

From a performance perspective think Stu Thorne about the change.

“I don’t think you will see so many use it for years but as soon as product managers have figured out how to make easy kolfibergafflar with disc it will come.

“I hope we can use it.” What I want to see is four bikes for every skier, two with disc brakes and two cantilevers.

Paul Kantor, product manager for brakes on Sram, think that it very soon will be hydraulic brakes to crossarna.

“My understanding is that there will be, yeah. We have the mechanical works today and they fit with country road shifters but we must try to make a lighter version and at the same time hold down the price. I think the pros, Fidea-guys, will want to have hydraulic systems.
