“We aim to as early as 2012 be the leading stage race on the bike and also combine it with a recreational bike ride where we aim at 5000 participants within five years. A tip received from the organizers of the Alpine World Championships in Åre in 2007 and the Biathlon World Championships in Östersund 2008 is to learn from the world’s leading operators in the same line of work. We have therefore chosen to visit the organizers behind the Tour of California, one of the largest week-long stage races of the world, “says Anders Bromée, project manager and one of the initiators.

The last time a professional bicycle stage race held in Sweden was 2003, when the last edition of Postgirot Open was decided. Now it’s time again for a large Swedish bicycle and then in jämtland. Mattias Elg, who was previously part of the management team for the Biathlon World Championships in Östersund, Östersund, Åre and considers to Jämtland in General now has a huge opportunity:

“We have a Swedish Cycling Association’s trust and full support to develop Sweden’s new big events on road cycling, and the chances are we’ll of course take advantage of. A week-long summer days with both the media focus and exercise participants from across Europe gives the County a good opportunity to continue to develop as one of the world’s best organizer regions for international sports events.
